WATCH: Allday’s US Radio Debut Made Up For Iggy’s Disastrous Freestyle

We as a nation can obviously never claim early hip-hop as our own, but in the decades following its rise from the South Bronx we have found some measure of an Australian hip-hop identity. We have countless young voices coming up through the ranks, trying to shake the stigma and making a name for themselves within the grand tradition of working-class expression and political advocacy.

A young rapper and connoisseur of a very specific genre of videos – namely ‘geese attacking people’ – by the name of Allday recently dropped in to ‘The Wake Up Show’ to chat with Sway Calloway

After playing his track ‘Cult’ (produced by Jord Levus) Allday became the second Aussie to freestyle over the Sway Universe airwaves; the first being Iggy, whose visible panic sparked a wave of ‘interviewer: iggy, give us a freestyle‘ dank memes across the internet nation.

This is not to drag Iggy Azalea, but she is essentially a pop artist and yet throughout much of the US, the only widely known ‘Australian rapper’. In Sway’s own words: “This is good to hear because people got a very shallow perception of hip hop in Australia because we’ve seen only one person that’s really blown up through Australia and that’s Iggy, you know, and no offence to her but you know it’s layers and dimensions to what’s going on in hip hop culture – an Australian, Allday, is showing you.”
