Vocal Looper Sam Perry Won ‘The Voice’ And The Purists Are Pissed Right Off

The controversial contestant on The Voice, loop artist and sampler Sam Perry, has gone and bloody won the whole thing.

In a performance full of looped distorted vocals, blasting bass, a cube (which I believe is where he gets his powers) and FIRE, Sam Perry sang/rapped/beatboxed his way to victory with an impressive mashup of Fatboy Slim‘s Praise You and Kanye West‘s Stronger.

Perry was the frontrunner from Team Kelly, and teamed up with Kelly Rowland to bust out a v. good cover of Michael Jackson‘s They Don’t Really Care About Us, which Kelly 100% stole the show for with some strong Michael/Janet Jackson vibes and choreography. Oof.

Perry knocked it out fo the park to beat out Aydan CalafioreBella Paige, and Sheldon Riley to the top spot with well over a million votes (!!), but his win has garnered a bunch of critics who believe that because he uses a lot of looping pedals and electronics to construct music that he’s at an unfair advantage, in their eyes, Sam Perry is not the true Voice. This is like Joel Turner winding up at the grand final of the 2003 Australian Idol (despite never making it past auditions) all over again.

I dunno maybe don’t tell ’em that like 80% of singers use vocal pedals and shit to alter/enhance their voices. Shhhh no don’t tell Carol.

Meanwhile, Boy George was wearing this during the final performances and I just ?????

?????????

When it’s all said and done, the top four will probably all get recording deals anyway so godspeed to all of them, especially Sheldon’s eyebrows, which are so sharp they could straight up kill a man.
