Vivid Live Announces 2012 Lineup

This year’s Vivid LIVE lineup was announced today at a launch event at the Sydney Opera House. While no app-inventing demi-gods made the cut (it was a long shot) it does adhere to the brief set out by first time Festival Director Fergus Linehan, “artist-driven projects including unique collaborations, one-off projects and special events”, with a rich lineup of one-off performances and collaborations.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O headlines with Psycho Opera bloodbath, Stop The Virgens, following a recent trip by bandmate Nick Zinner who performed ’41 Strings by Nick Zinner’ at Sydney Festival earlier this year. Joining her will be Zola Jesus, Janelle Monae & The Archandroid Orchestra, Efterklang and Sydney Symphony, Light Asylum, My Brightest Diamond, emcees Danny Brown and M.E.D. and Florence + The Machine who will perform a symphonic version of sophomore LP Ceremonials. Amon Tobin’s “epic audiovisual spectacular” Live Beyond 3D ISAM will try to top Chris Cunningham’s AV freakout last year while German design collective, URBANSCREEN, will this year light the Opera House sails. Local performers include The Temper Trap, PVT and Seekae.

Those acts join the previously announced trio of Sufjan Stevens, classical composer Nico Muhly (Bjork, Philip Glass, Grizzly Bear) and Bryce Dessner of The National.

The festival will close with the Australian premiere of LCD Soundsystem documentary Shut Up & Play The Hits which premiered at Sundance earlier this year.
