Vic Mensa Admitted His Very Horny Misreading Of The Spice Girls’ Best Lyric

We’ve all had one of those song lyrics that, for one reason or another, registered in the brain way differently than what the original line intended. Nothing quite like a good old fashioned mondegreen to hold you closer, Tony Danza.

But Vic Mensa‘s complete and total misreading of an iconic Spice Girls line might just take the whole bloody cake.

The Chicago-born rapper sat down with Pitchfork for their regular YouTube series ‘Over/Under,’ in which they lob various names, concepts, and things at musicians and ask them to determine whether or not they’re over or underrated.

Among the other revelations – Garth Brooks: underrated, meditation: underrated, Hugh Hefner: can never be overrated, caviar: overrated as fuck – Mensa was asked for his opinion on the Spice Girls. And the verdict? Overs. Well overs.

The thing is, though, they might have been underrated in his mind, if it weren’t for the fact that he totally thought a line in ‘Wannabe‘ meant something else entirely.

Overrated. They would’ve been underrated if they meant what I thought they meant, when they said ‘If you wanna be my lover / you gotta get with my friends.’ I always thought that meant that you could fuck their friends if you fuck one of them. But that’s not what they meant.

That he outlays this admission so earnestly and without a hint of sarcasm makes it all the better, holy shit.

There’s also a staggering admission re: Cinnabon later in the video that involves some friends of his copping to jizzing in the doughnut glaze which, frankly, almost warranted a standalone article in and of itself.

But really, being convinced that five British girls wanted you to bang their friends first in order to bang them is some Hall of Fame-level misinterpreting.

Bless yr heart, Vic.
