Update: Phoenix To Work With Daniel And Jordan Askill’s Father, Michael

As we reported yesterday, Phoenix have consulted the “Dad of a friend” to record some “experimental” percussion for the band’s train-inspired Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix followup. Turns out the “friend” was “Consolation Prizes” and “Rally” video Director Daniel Askill and the “Dad” was Byron Bay percussionist, performer and composer, Michael Askill.

A little background. Michael is one quarter of world music troupe Trikaya, a founding member of Steve Reich collaborators Synergy Percussion and was Principal Percussionist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for a number of years. He also provided the original score to Daniel’s dystopian short film “We Have Decided Not To Die” which now feels like an 11 minute case study for why overachieving is genetic.

According to frontman Thomas Mars, Phoenix are scheduled to record in Byron today.
