Two People Shot Dead At Drake-Hosted After Party In Toronto

Two people have been shot dead and three injured at a music festival after-party hosted by Drake, following his annual OVO Fest concert in Toronto.
Per reports in the Toronto Star, the incident took place at Muzik nightclub, near Molson Amphitheatre, the site of the show. The shooting began around 3.30am, with “one or two people” shot at the bar before gunfire spilled out onto the street.
The Star say that there were hundreds of people at the scene when the shooting began, and eyewitnesses have described chaos in the immediate aftermath, with one saying that women were seen “pulling off their high heels to run more quickly.”
A man was found dead in the club’s outdoor area, while a woman died en-route to hospital. Three others were injured, two seriously, although all are recovering in hospital, and none of their injuries have been reported as life-threatening.
Deputy Police Chief Peter Sloly has said that the heavy police presence was due in part to a call for backup, thanks to a crowd that had gathered outside the venue, hoping to see celebrities. He says that police did not discharge their firearms at any point:
“Our officers were present when the initial shots went off, they were within metres of the initial shooting, they continued to follow up as more firearms were discharged in the immediate aftermath. Literally, our officers were running toward live-fire incidents.”
He said that there were “high-profile entertainment figures” present at the party, but it is unclear whether Drake himself was there at the time of the shooting. The shooters remain at large.
Club owner Zlatko Starkovski has issued a statement, saying:
“We’re absolutely shocked by this horrific attack. Our deepest condolences go out to the victims and their families, and we wish a quick recovery to those injured. We are fully cooperating with Toronto Police and have full confidence they will get to the bottom of this horrific incident, and bring these people to justice.”
This year, guests like Kanye, Future and Pharrell Williams joined Drake at OVO Fest, and the rapper himself mocked Meek Mill by showing a series of anti-Meek memes while performing a diss track.
