triple j‘s Unearthed has a pretty stellar reputation for yanking this country’s best music acts out of the dirt and brushing them off to sell at your local roadside vendor. In previous years they’ve found the delicious Middle East, John Steel Singers and Boy & Bear, not mention Pedestrian favourites, Young + Restless (RIP). Today they announced their 5 nominees for 2011, and they’re looking pretty stellar. Here they are, as well as our likening them to vegetables, because we’ve started a metaphor here and it’s really hard to let go.

Pumpkins; they’re versatile for cooking and you can make stupid faces in them.
Emma Louise
She’s 24 carrot gold. Also, her song was used for The Slap, and how great would it be to slap someone with a carrot?
Husky
Corn husks, obviously. They set themselves up that. But corn is a staple of any diet, so points for that.
Lanie Lane
Cucumber; cool and the perfect accompaniment to most alcoholic beverages. (Note: not Baileys)
San Cisco
We were going to say tomato, but we keep being told that’s a fruit. So San Cisco get mushrooms, because we enjoy listening to them when we’re supposed to be eating breakfast.
The winner is announced November 30. Expect many leek-y eyes on the night.
