Triple J’s Cooked Requestival Is Back So Get Ready To Ask For Your Guiltiest Pleasure Tracks

triple j requestival 2021

A full year after the airwaves turned deeply chaotic for a whole week, it’s about to happen all over again. That’s right mates, Triple J’s Requestival is back – where all the songs that get played for the week are determined by the listeners. It’s utter pandemonium, and I’m hooting and hollering at its return.

Kicking off last May, when we were all waiting for the end of our first stint in lockdown, Requestival clearly was a huge hit for the national youth broadcaster. Bringing it back a year later, after the last 12 months we’ve all endured, is an absolute treat.

Who knew that kicking off day one with Alien Ant FarmD12, and the entirety of Kate Bush‘s Wuthering Heights would make everyone lose their shit? Who could have thought that playing back to back ridiculous heaters would unite an entire country in deep cookery?

This year’s Requestival is the same deal – you can request literally any song you want through the Triple J app, and punch in the track you want to hear. Does this mean I’ll be submitting Weird Al Yankovic‘s Albaquerque incessantly for the next week? You bet your sweet ass I am. Waka-waka-doo-doo-yeah.

It all kicks off next Monday, May 10, and will run through until Friday the 14th – five whole days of completely cursed radio. I’ve got high hopes for what gets chucked on the request line by the gremlin population, and I’m 1000% certain it’s going to deliver.

Triple J is extending it out a bit this year too, in addition to the punter programming between 6am – 9pm on weekdays, it’s now letting listeners put together the weekly Live At The Wireless on Monday nights, and the weekly Friday Mix. So if you’re an absolute demon on the AUX cord, it’s your time to shine.

I for one simply cannot wait to hear what total mayhem gets beamed through the airwaves next week, so get requesting and let’s finally get Smash Mouth‘s All Star on 50 times in a row.
