Yes friends, it’s that time of year – the time when we all start looking back, in fondness or in horror, on the twelve months that just flew by, and all the crap they brought with them.

Of course, not all of it is crap, which is why we have Top 10 lists! And the big one of today is Triple J‘s much-anticipated Albums of the Year 2017.

As always, they’ve published a list of the best albums released this year as voted by listeners, alongside Richard Kingsmill‘s own top ten (spoiler: they’re not wildly different).

Encouragingly, both lists feature a shitload of Australian artists – though at this point, it’d be more weird if they didn’t. And in a pleasant change from last year, they also feature more than one (1) woman! Nice!

Without further ado, here are your Top 10 Albums of 2017, as voted by listeners of Triple J:

1. Gang Of Youths – Go Farther In Lightness

2. Lorde – Melodrama

3. Kendrick Lamar – DAMN.

4. The Smith Street Band – More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me

5. Childish Gambino – Awaken, My Love

6. Alex Lahey – I Love You Like A Brother

7. The Jungle Giants – Quiet Ferocity

8. Vera Blue – Perennial

9. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – Flying Microtonal Banana

10. Meg Mac – Low Blows

And here are Kingsmill’s picks:

  1. Kendrick Lamar – DAMN.
  2. Gang Of Youths – Go Father In Lightness
  3. Lorde – Melodrama
  4. J. Cole – 4 Your Eyez Only

  7. Alex Lahey – I Love You Like A Brother

How many of these are gonna end up in the Hottest 100 on its first non-Australia Day iteration? All, probably, who are we kidding. See you in January, mates.
