Triple J’s Gen Fricker Is Back At Work Following Horrifying Alleged Assault

Gen Fricker has returned to Triple J airwaves for the first time since enduring a horrifying alleged assault inside the secure ABC building in Ultimo.

Fricker had been quietly taking time away from her usual Lunch slot on the youth broadcaster ever since the alleged assault which occurred on September 5th.

However today, she returned to the show she’s permanently owned since 2017, addressing her absence in broad terms and remarking that she was feeling much, much better after taking the time off to look after herself.

It is so, so lovely to be back with you on Triple j hanging out this arvo. Big thank you to Lucy and Ciaran Lyons for filling in for me over the past month or so.

Thank you to everyone who sent me lovely messages as well. I’m feeling heaps better and I’m stoked, because what better way to spend a day than playing music for you fine people?

Police previously arrested 31-year-old Kieran Gallagher over the September 5th assault, alleging that he had been stalking Fricker since at least May, before forcing his way into the otherwise secure ABC Ultimo building – by “tailgating” an employee through security gates. Gallagher is alleged to have then made his way into the Triple J offices where the assault took place.

During her time away, Fricker issued public comment on the incident, stating the alleged assault had caused her significant distress.

Right now I feel like I’m relearning how to be in the world and it’s an excruciatingly slow process but I’m trying to do the things I can. I’m not sure about the future, but right now, I am grateful and ok.

Gallagher was charged with stalking, entering enclosed lands without permission, and common assault.

Court proceedings against Gallagher have been adjourned while he undergoes a mental health assessment.
