Three great bastions of androgyny, actress Tilda Swinton, Australian-raised model Andrej Pejic and the man himself David Bowie all feature in the music video for Bowie’s latest single “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)”.
Photographer/artist/director Floria Sigismondi (who wrote and directed The Runaways with Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning) directs this beautifully photographed fascinating short exploring celebrity, sexuality and self-identity within a gorgeous pastel colour palette.
The clip also stars gender-bending Saint Laurent model Saskia DeBrauw as Pejic’s offsider and Norweigan model Iselin Steiro playing a young David Bowie. Damn it’s a cool video. Not only does it at last combine the Thin White Duke and the White Witch of Narnia onscreen, but it has a combination of David Lynch weirdness and a spiraling Freudian rabbit hole that inspires repeat-viewing.
