Thom Yorke Just Dropped a Surprise New Album

Radiohead arguably kicked off the current trend for unconventional album drops back in the day with the pay-what-you-want release of In Rainbows, and now Thom Yorke is at it again, dropping a surprise album overnight through a highly unexpected source.

Mashable report that Yorke’s brand new album, Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, is available to download right now as a $6 BitTorrent bundle.
What’s that, you say? Isn’t BitTorrent the thing you use to swipe music for free? Well, yes, in theory, but they’re working on a new distribution strategy to help artists make money from their releases, and Yorke’s helping out.
Of the album itself:
Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes is a new album from Thom Yorke. It is the artist’s first solo record in eight years. It is a project conceived of in  conversation with, and collaboration with, fans. It is music and video and art. It is an experiment: the first paygated BitTorrent Bundle. And it is an alternative vision of how the creative Internet can work: for creators, for good.
There’s a step-by-step guide on how to download the album on BitTorrent’s blog. You’ll just need to download the BitTorrent app, pony up some cash, and you’ll be feeling deep, existential angst in no time.
