It’s ironic, with its stirring lyrical inversion of penthouse party extravagance and hip hop tropes relating to materialism, that 16 year old Kiwi singer-songwriter Lorde’s debut single “Royals” has received a remix and vocal assist from dude whose life looks like a 24 hour Hype Williams video Canadian R&B singer-songwriter seemingly never not in a strip club or renting super-yachts, The Weeknd. It definitely works though.
Lorde’s debut album Pure Heroine (as in lady hero, we don’t want to inject her and listen to jazz), drops September 27th, 2013. In the meantime you can catch Ella Yellich-O’Connor live when she tours nationally in October.
