The Smith Street Band, Iron Chic Head Up Weekender Fest 2015

One of the little-engines-that-could of the Australian festival circuit, the annual weekend festival of punk rock, jangly guitars, beer soaked flannelette shirts and international displays of pure fun and mateship, the annual Weekender Fest is approaching its seventh iteration (eighth if you want to throw hands about technicalities and the like) this coming September, and to celebrate, Poison City Records has casually let slip the first lineup announcement. And WHOA NELLY is it ever a rip-snorter.

The three-day “festival” takes over multiple Melbourne venues and has been growing in size consistently year on year for the duration of its existence. Weekender Fest ’15? Not even remotely a stretch to say it’s the biggest one yet.
After a year’s absence from the arguably their spiritual home, The Smith Street Band return to headline this year’s episode, fresh off a freaking massive start to the year which, by that time, will have included multiple extensive trips to Europe and a US tour.
The international contingent for this year has been greatly expanded, with five acts from abroad contained within the first announcement. Current Smith Street Band tourmates Andrew Jackson Jihad, Long Island legends Iron Chic, Run for Cover Records cornerstones Modern Baseball, now-genre veterans The Sidekicks, and the innovative and cross continental Self Defence Family will all be making the trek across the pond for Weekender 15.
But the fun doesn’t stop there. The list of local acts reads like a murderer’s row of good times, including the likes of The Bennies, Luca Brasi, The Meanies, Clowns, Deep Heat, Oslow, Postblue and a big heap more. And that’s just what’s in the first announcement.
The full lineup, dates and ticketing info are below. Start doing those party stretches, friends. This is gonna be a real, real nice time.
