Beloved Swedish electro pop weirdos The Knife shattered the poor little hearts of many fans overnight, when they declared that they will be going their separate ways after their current tour is done.
Siblings Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer formed the band in Gothenburg in the late ’90s, and have been spooking the absolute living shit out of people ever since, with really very excellent singles like ‘Silent Shout’ and ‘Heartbeats’.
The pair broke the news in a statement on their website, entitled ‘We Are Doing Our Last Tour!’. They invited fans to join them for one last dance, then reprinted some cryptic lyrics about elf pee as a way of bidding everyone farewell.
They then confirmed their breakup in a surprisingly candid interview with Dazed, saying: “We will close down, it’s our last tour. We don’t have any obligations to continue, it should only and always be for fun.”
Moments after the announcement announcement, Karin’s human form disintegrated to reveal a thousand angry Moomintrolls, scurrying away in all directions, while Olof stood very still and began making exaggerated goldfish gestures with his mouth.
