The Go! Team’s Top Five Videos Of All Time

Ahead of The Go! Team’s May tour of Australia, Pedestrian caught up with multi-instrumentalist Ian Parton to discuss the top five influences on their newly released third album, Rolling Blackouts. From oft-high collaborators to the universal appeal of Sesame Street and vintage sexploitation films, Parton’s selections are as diverse as his band’s back catalogue. Take it away Ian.

Best Coast – Sun Was High (So Was I)

An achingly dreamy song from Best Coast. This is a fan made video using clips from the film ‘Un Homme Et Une Femme’ and it works pretty well. Love her distorted voice in this one – super pleased she sings on a Go! Team track.

Cornelius – Drop

Cornelius has always made stunning videos – they always totally realize the power of editing. It’s almost like he’s playing the music with the images, so the sound and vision become one thing. Fresh.

Broadcast And The Focus Group – Witch Cults

Broadcast – one of my fave all time bands. I love bands that have their own distinct take on the world. They were all about public information films, pagan folk, hammer films. Julian House’s videos for their recent stuff are right up my street – so grainy and trippy. RIP Trish Keenan.

Sesame Street – We’re Five

I’ve always had a soft spot for the little interlude films in vintage Sesame Street – not Big Bird or Cookie Monster or any of that toss but the little films about things like seasons or seahorses. They often had really amazing mellow music. Check out the subtle VHS tape warping the Fender Rhodes on this one . I swear its was a blueprint for Boards of Canada’s career.

The Carrie Nations – In The Long Run

I love this song – it’s from the Russ Meyer film “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls” about a girl group trying to make it in LA. I’m a sucker for this kinda 60’s string drenched windswept stuff. “When does any party start?…When you get there.”
