The ARIA Awards – lacking in a monolithic non-Australian pop star to hang its hat on while insisting that monolithic non-Australian pop stars are the only way for other people to take notice of us – have added Taylor Swift to the handful of acts performing live at this year’s ceremony in Sydney. The pop-country singer-songwriter, six time Grammy winner and Co-President of the John Mayer Breakup Society will perform live alongside previously announced local artists including 360, The Jezabels, Jessica Mauboy, Hilltop Hoods and The Temper Trap – something which ARIA boss Dan Rosen celebrates.
“I think international guests are definitely an important part because our music industry includes international acts on the charts, collaborating with our artists and touring here,” he told us last month. “All it does is help more people celebrate and more people engage with it, and we’re all for that.”
If you’re also all for that, tickets for the ceremony go on sale today via Ticketmaster. Who knows? Something as epic as this might happen…
