A fired-up Nicki Minaj name-checked Taylor Swift after a fan on Instagram told her to be quiet, saying that black women in the music industry should not be afraid to “speak their truths.”
The rapper recently made a post commemorating the twelfth anniversary of her first mixtape, Playtime Is Over, and contemplating her impact on the music industry since then.
She complained that it’s become “cool” for other female rappers to ignore her influence and that said she was never congratulated for her success on charts, writing:
“I never had a crusade by radio stations, influencers and blogs to make my song Number 1 when Anaconda was Number 2 on the Hot 100. I never had a group of men in the studio writing my songs for me so it took a while between albums. Please stop these write ups about what I didn’t do. Y’all are rlly sick & ima call y’all out one by one on Queen Radio. Most of yall doing these write ups have never fought for anything in life. You just sit on the sidelines & watch the doers do!!!!”

The post copped some backlash in the comments, and Nicki returned to have her say, hitting back at one fan who said that she needs to “stop these rants.”
“Eat a dick,” she wrote. “Blocked for being fkng dumb & wanting black women to keep being afraid of speaking their truth. Taylor Swift can speak but I can’t?!”
Swift recently made headlines when she called out Big Machine label head Scott Borchetta, accusing him of selling her catalogue out from under her to Scooter Braun.
Various industry figures like Justin Bieber, Sia and Kacey Musgraves, came out in support of Braun, while the likes of Halsey, Miley Cyrus and Danielle Haim were Team Taylor.
