Taylor Swift Covered Vance Joy’s ‘Riptide,’ Hearts Melt Worldwide

Turns out binning a burgeoning football career is really paying off for James Keogh – probably better known to all of you as Vance Joy. On the back of the runaway local success of debut single “Riptide,” Vance Joy’s slowly beginning to make some waves in the mighty ocean that is the US. As if absolutely nailing his debut late night performance on Late Night with Seth Meyers wasn’t enough, he’s just gotten the rub to end all rubs from what might, to some, seem like an unlikely source – Taylor Swift.

Swifty Cent herself skipped across the pond recently to spend a bit of time in London and it’s general Britishy surrounds, and whilst there found a wee speck of spare time to drop by the offices of BBC Radio for a chat and a sing and such.

Along with laying down some shithot versions of her own certified bangers, TaySway went off-book to perform a cover version of, what she called, one of her “favourite songs that’s been released this year.” And as it turns out that song just so happened to be that humble little ukulele ditty Riptide.

Turning the arrangement down a few notches to just herself and a few slowed down piano chords, Swift ripped through Riptide and came out with a hauntingly magnificent rendition. The shit of Swift’s notoriously rabid fan base was well and truly lost.

Riptide is already tearing its way up the US charts, but this nod of approval from one of the current global charting powerhouses is the stuff dreams are made of. It’s entirely foreseeable that we’ll soon be adding Vance Joy’s name to the ever-growing list of ‘Strayans who’ve made the Billboard 100 their proverbial bitch in recent months.

It’s a bloody good time to be an Australian in America with a chart-smashing hit song in your bag.
