Sydney Festival Announces David Byrne vs. St Vincent, Händel vs. Vivienne Westwood

Sydney Festival has announced a pointedly eclectic (and totally rad) trio of performers as part of their month long Sydney arts and culture event next January. Heading up the announcement is the dream musical collaboration between Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and singer-songwriter Annie Clark aka St. Vincent, previously announced as part of Hobart’s MONA FOMA festival, performing songs from their debut collaborative album Love This Giant across two nights at the city’s State Theatre. The festival will also feature an unmissable production of Semele Walk, which combines the 1744 Georg Friedrich Händel opera Semele, Berlin’s chamber music ensemble, Kaleidoskop, and the punk-inspired couture of British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. Rounding out the announcement is the Colombian equivalent of Cirque du Soleil, Circolombia, who will stage an acrobatic circus opus dubbed URBAN.

So much culture! Early release tickets for these shows go on sale 9am Thursday September 13. In the meantime, here’s a taste of what to expect.
