Wow, it’s been a remarkably swift ascension for Melbourne four-piece Strange Talk. After first forming in February (of this year), Strange Talk’s heady, unashamedly accessible take on electro pop has earned comparisons to both Phoenix and Passion Pit. Such claims aren’t completely unfounded either, with the band’s first few offerings evoking a slinky combination of Thomas Mars’ sunny vocals and Passion Pit’s knack for grounding flat out pop in grinding electronics.
Nowhere is this pop nous more apparent than in “Climbing Walls” a radiant synth jam that recently received a visual treatment of sorts from Swedish film clip director Daniel Takács (Air France, Loney Dear).
Strange Talk have also remixed the likes of Muscles, Miami Horror and Art Vs Science under the production moniker Thieves of Aon and recently procured a Parklife Melbourne spot thanks to Triple J’s unearthed competition. Their debut EP, made in conjunction with UK Producer Eliot James (Two Door Cinema Club, Bloc Party, Futureheads) is slated for release early next year.
