Sticky Fingers Blast Opera House For “Quiet” Tame Impala Gig Last Night

Hey, we’re just throwing this one out there – but when you attend one of the most highly anticipated gigs of 2015, to see arguably one of the best acts on the Aussie and international music scenes right now, you MIGHT want to be able to hear the damn thing properly.

Just a thought.

Yup, Tame Impala played their first of two gigs at the Sydney Opera House last night, a performance so highly anticipated that the first ticket pre-sale crashed the Opera House’ website, and the second Sydney show was announced about 12 hours later.

And punters are complaining loud and clear that the performance was quiet AF, including Sydney band Sticky Fingers, who blasted the Opera House on their Facebook page for a gig so quiet “they might as well [have] gone and spooned our grandmothers’ graves on the other side of the planet, silently jerking off, cuddling our teddy bears” and it “would have been louder.”

Shout outs to tame impala for playing some of the best music on the planet right now. But shame on Sydney for making it…

At the time of writing, that status has gotten well over 12,000 likes, and almost 200 shares, and – aside from people frothing over Sticky Fingers’ excellent choice of words – commenters are pretty much in agreement.

“I’m at Tame Impala as we speak and let me tell you, SF [Sticky Fingers] are speaking words of wisdom,” wrote one commenter, while another said: “True words of truthfulness have been spoken.”

On Twitter, people used the Opera House’ hashtag #SOHmusic to express their (well deserved) lack of chill over the volume:

PEDESTRIAN.TV has reached out to the Opera House for comment, but as this writer is seeing Tame Impala tonight, CAN YOU PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP GUYS? Thx.

Update: PHEW, we’ve just found their tweet responding to the music ~ issue ~ and turned the sound up halfway through. Thanks guys!

Updated at 2:22pm:
the Opera House has come back to us with an official statement:

“Early in last night’s performance of Tame Impala we identified an issue with low sound levels; this was quickly addressed with the band, and levels were increased by the fourth song.”

“We will be undertaking thorough testing of sound levels around all areas of the venue during tonight’s sound check and for all future Forecourt performances.”
