Splendour In The Grass Has Not Sold Out Yet

For anyone out there who had your heart set on attending this year’s Splendour In The Grass but failed to pick up a ticket the day they went on sale you can rest easy: the festival has not yet sold out so you can still head to Moshtix and snap one up now. Organisers tell us that both event-camping and event-only tickets are still available.

Splendour has got to be one of – if not the – most popular winter festivals in Australia and it typically sells out in a matter of hours. This year tickets for the three-day event went on sale on Thursday 5 May, but the process for purchasing tickets was stymied by an online banking glitch that poleaxed the Moshtix website and freaked out thousands of would-be ticket buyers.

After witnessing the speed at which Splendour In The Grass has sold out in previous years, we assumed that once the glitch was corrected it would be a matter of moments before the ticket levy was drained by punters – but not so. This has gotta be the first time in seven or eight years that Splendour didn’t sell out within a day and we’ve been wondering why that might be…

Is the bank drama responsible for the unseasonably slow sales? The 2011 ticket prices have increased – could that be impacting sales? Is it the lineup that’s effecting business? – a broad cross-section of genres and artists including some huge, commercial international acts that have to be draw cards for new punters.

Event publicists Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco released a statement to industry publication The Music Network to explain the slower sales:

“For the first time in many years Splendour In The Grass has not sold out on the same day that tickets were released for sale… the flow on effects from the much publicised Westpac banking glitch – and the frustration it caused our patrons – seems to have resulted in a break in sales momentum.”

“While there has been strong demand for tickets this morning and sales are continuing, the event has not yet sold out.”
