Splendour In The Grass Approved For New Home In 2013

They did it, they finally did it! After an extensive process of applications and approval-seeking, redrafted proposals, call outs for punter support, endless campaigning and more than likely a hex or two, Splendour In The Grass has finally gained approval to move into their long planned Byron Bay’s North Byron Parklands site as of next year for the 2013 festival.

TheMusic.com reports that today the Planning and Assessment Commission [PAC] of the Byron Shire Council gave permission for the grounds to host events during a five-year trial period until 2017.

The reasons Splendour In The Grass organisers have wanted to make the shift from Belongil Fields to the North Byron Parklands are…
– It’s really big (660 acres, compared with Woodford’s 400 acres and 50 acres at Belongil);
– It’s accessible (20 minutes north of Byron and 30 minutes south of the Gold Coast airport);
– There’s excellent access to/from the Pacific Highway which runs straight past the site;
– It will have fantastic camping locations on site;
– There are plenty of other accommodation options nearby.

All signs point to THAT SOUNDS PRETTY DAMN GOOD.

According to TheMusic.com Splendour co-producer Jessica Ducrou said that Splendour would now be permanently based in Byron Bay.
