Sofia Coppola Unveils New “Somewhere” Tracklist and Clip

As our anticipation for Sofia Coppola’s forthcoming Father-Daughter dramedy “Somewhere” continues to mount, the powers that be have unveiled a short, awkward-as-hell excerpt from the film as well as details of Coppola’s Phoenix-heavy soundtrack.

The synopsis for those who have forgotten: Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a bad-boy actor stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood. With an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning), Johnny is forced to look at the questions we must all confront.

First up is the clip, which vaguely recalls Lost In Translation’s condemnation of celebrity culture and the less than savory byproducts it yields – strained relationships and existential crisis. Oh no!

Now to the soundtrack. Coppola’s music taste is impeccable as per usual and includes both the jams featured in the film’s trailer – “Love Like A Sunset Pt. 1” by Phoenix (her hubby’s band) and The Strokes’ B-Side “I’ll Try Anything Once”. Alongside those ethereal-ish numbers are cuts from Bryan Ferry, The Police, Gwen Stefani, Sebastian Tellier and “My Hero” by the Foo Fighters – the perfect song for soundtracking a triumphant sporting montage while focusing on one shining human being. It’ll be interesting to see how Coppola wields it in the context of “Somewhere”. Check out the tracklist below. And yes, we’re still really, really excited about this one.
