Smash Mouth Just Gave An Aussie Indie Muso A Random Shoutout On Twitter

When you deal with the internet on a day-to-day basis, there’s a whole mess of things you simply don’t expect to encounter when you fire up the ole’ Amstrad on a warm Friday afternoon. Smash Mouth giving props to a rising Australian indie musician is fairly high up on that list.

And yet, here we are. The All-Star singers have a particularly and curiously active Twitter account, which in the past they’ve used to great effect on issues like cunnilingus and remembering the victims of 9/11.

lest we fucken forget

By and large though, their feed is mostly used for gig promotion with appropriate accompanying hashtags like “#RadConcert.”

So that makes this post which appeared on their timeline a little after 7am this morning all the more… weird? Good? Confusing? Awesome?

Probably a combo of the lot TBH.

Your eyes do not deceive you. That is Walking on the By-God Sun Smash Mouth giving a hell of a signal boost to Melbourne muso Alex Lahey.

For what reason, we are totally unsure. Somehow, someway, Alex Lahey’s (incredibly good) tunes landed in the laps of Smash Mouth, and they dug it intensely.

As for Lahey, she’s doing some appropriate celebrating in response.

Judge for yourself, but we reckon Smash Mouth are right on the money with this one.

The mystery as to how exactly Smash Mouth came to hear Lahey might never be answered fully. But at this point it’s fairly safe to assume that… someBODY once told them.

Never, ever apologising for that one.
