Silverchair’s original lineup may never head out on another tour, according to a legal writ lodged by drummer Ben Gillies.
The muso claims an injury sustained during his first personal training session at a Melbourne gym in 2014 resulted in permanent damage to his shoulder, limiting his ability to perform.
Gillies alleges that despite his protestations, his trainer at Melbourne Health and Fitness pushed him to attempt bench pressing a heavier weight than he was capable of lifting. He claims he suffered a torn tendon as a result, was incapable of drumming for nearly a year afterwards, and still suffers limited mobility.
That impairment is allegedly enough to keep him from reaching “pre-injury level of drumming skills to enable him to tour or return to his previous ability,” and would keep him from dealing with the strenuous nature of actually being in a travelling act.
Part of the claim hinges on the allegation that Gillies’ trainer didn’t conduct a prior fitness test to adequately judge his physical capabilities, and he’s seeking an unknown figure in damages from both the trainer in question and the gym.
