Pop Music’s Sweet Angel Boy Shawn Mendes Just Started A Charity Targeting Youth Causes

When he’s not busy smooching Camila Cabello or being one of the biggest names in pop music, Shawn Mendes also apparently finds time to start a charity.

At the ripe old age of 21, Shawn is already doing more for the planet than most of the governments in the world, according to Rolling Stone. The Shawn Mendes Foundation (SMF) works on a number of areas that affect today’s youth. From sustainability and human rights to anti-bullying, gun control, climate change and mental health, the charity aims to target the issues facing Mendes and his fans.

“For a long time, I’ve wanted to find a way to amplify the causes that my fans and I care deeply about, and to help make the voices of our generation heard,” he said in a statement. “My goal in launching the foundation is to work alongside my fans, and do everything I can to help provide them with a platform that inspires positive change, and empowers young change-makers.”

The SMF has raised $1 million USD so far through partnerships and donations. This money will be used to help various causes including SickKids and REVERB, an environmental non-profit organisation that minimises environmental footprints of touring performers.

His work with REVERB has already helped remove approximately 70,000 plastic bottles from his tours alone.

Basically, you can donate to the SMF and help to suggest causes that the foundation will support in future.

“Our generation has the power to change the future of our planet, and to help carry that change forward for so many generations to follow,” he said.

This isn’t Shawn’s first rodeo when it comes to charity work. He was also a key part of a DoSomething.org campaign for mental health and donated $100,000 to the Mexican Earthquake Relief Fund, among numerous other charitable acts.

As a young person with an enormous following, it’s great to see Shawn Mendes using his platform to shed light on a number of important causes that will resonate with his fanbase.

Apparently when you’re ridiculously talented, rumoured to be dating Camila fucking Cabello, it’s time to give back to the world. Can Shawn Mendes do anything wrong? I don’t think so. We stan an unproblematic, charitable king.
