Shakira’s World Cup Song Officially Trounces Pitbull and J-Lo’s

Last week, Brazilians said a big fat “não obrigado” to Pitbull and J-Lo‘s World Cup Song ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’, complaining that it only made a token effort to include elements of Brazilian music, that its video whitewashed the country’s current political turmoil, and that it was generally a bit shit. Now, a savior has appeared in the form of Shakira.

The Colombian singer released a video for her brand new track ‘La La La (Brazil 2014)’ last week, and the internet is already rallying around it as an unofficial World Cup song. The track is a reworked version of her recent single ‘Dare (La La La)’, featuring Brazilian singer song-writer Carlinhos Brown. The video also features Shakira’s boyfriend Gerard Piqué and their son Milan. Aww.
Pop fans and World Cup fans alike have thrown their support behind the song, firstly because it has echoes of Shakira’s 2010 World Cup hit ‘Waka Waka;, and secondly, because it does not stink like Pitbull’s barbecue sauce farts. Though it’s not the official song of the Cup and only features on the accompanying album, history will look upon Shakira as the rightful winner of the 2014 World Cup song battle.
