Selena Gomez’s New Song Is Here & It Sure Sounds Like It’s About A Certain Someone

Selena Gomez

After what feels like eons, Selena Gomez has released a new song and hoo boy, does it sound like it’s about a certain someone. That’s the gist here, but it’s also about growth and self-love and we love that for her.

The music video was actually shot on an iPhone 11 Pro, and is pretty much Selena looking aesthetically moody for three minutes. In the beginning she’s upset, angry, and always looking over her shoulder. But towards the end, she’s smiling and laughing – she’s not completely happy, but she looks like she’s going to be just fine.

She says the song is inspired by many things that have happened in her life since releasing her last album. It may or may not include references to ex-beau Justin Bieber. Or the Weeknd. But probably Bieber.

A snippet:

“You promised the world and I fell for it / I put you first and you adored it / You set fires to my forest / And you let it burn / Sang off-key in my chorus ’cause it wasn’t yours.”

Another snippet:

“I gave my all and they all know it / You turned me down, and now it’s showing / In two months, you replaced us / Like it was easy…”

Woof.

In the chorus, Selena sings “I needed to hate you to love me” and “I needed to lose you to love me” – yes, those vibes. And the final few words? “And now it’s goodbye, goodbye for us”.

She’s thriving. That is all.

“Thank you all for standing by my side through the highs and lows,” Selena wrote on social media after the tune’s release. “I couldn’t do it without you all and I can’t wait to start my next adventure with you.”
