A Tune About Sausage Rolls Is Somehow Out-Charting Ariana Grande In The UK

The UK Christmas Number One song is incredibly serious business. And while the heavy hitters are all vying for the crown, it turns out a Dad Blogging YouTuber might usurp them all with a parody tune about sausage rolls.

There’s a normal, ordinary, everyday sentence for you.

The bloke in question, a YouTube who goes by the very legitimate name of LadBaby, dropped a charity single a week that is, would you even believe, currently out-selling Ariana Grande.

We Built This City… on Sausage Rolls is currently in second place on the mid-week UK chart report, as the nation barrels towards crowning 2018’s Christmas number one later this week. Only Ava Max‘s Sweet But Psycho currently stands in between the sausage roll song and number one glory. When it was released last Saturday, it managed to accrue more downloads in a single day than Thank U, Next had in the entire week prior to it.

In fact, the song is performing so well that it’s currently out-charting two Ariana Grande songs, as well as Mariah Carey‘s omnipotent Christmas jam All I Want For Christmas Is You.

It’s all for a good cause too: Sales of LadBaby’s song are benefitting The Trussell Trust, which aids people living below the poverty line in the UK.

Now then, the important question: Is the song any good?

Honestly… it kinda is.

It kinda, sorta, totally slaps.

It’s fun as hell and that opening line “it’s a cylindrical bit of pork wrapped/in a puff pastry case” is some inspired gear.

Will it reach the promised land, the pinnacle of number one? Hard to say at this stage.

But for what’s ostensibly a bit of a laugh, it’s got a hell of a chance.
