Santigold Helps Devo Ready New Album

Polish up those energy domes: seminal new wave band Devo are on the verge of releasing their first album for 20 years and despite their reputation as a major sonic visionaries they’ve enlisted the help of modern musos to co-produce the album, including the very cool Santigold.

Such is the legend status of Devo that when they announced they would put out a new album they were contacted by 20 producers gagging to work with them, including Snoop Dogg and Fatboy Slim. The album, Something For Everybody, will be released on June 14 and features production from Greg Kurstin (who produced Sia’s We Are Born and Lily Allen’s It’s Not Me, It’s You), the Dust Brothers’ King Gizmo, and, of course, Santigold who once said: “I’ve always wanted to play with Devo because they’re like my ultimate favorite band, so that would be ideal.” Kudos SG!

The multi-talented producer/singer also teamed up with Christina Aguilera to help out on her soon-to-be-released Bionic record, but we’re also hoping Santigold will reveal details on a follow-up to her excellent 2008 self-titled debut some time soon.

Random Devo fact: In 2008 McDonald’s released a Happy Meal toy called ‘New Wave Nigel’ who wore a Devo Energy Dome for a hat. Epic.
