So just some quick housekeeping points before we get cracking with this story on the currently-circulating rumours about how Marvel and Disney are courting Beyoncé to star in a future Avengers movie:
1. Please treat the following as rumour and nothing more
2. Please assume that we made a lot of jokes about how Beyoncé already has superpowers, and they were all very funny
Got that? Excellent.
Overnight, multiple sources began teasing the prospect that we might soon see Bey returning to the big screen in some kind of superhero capacity, in one of the world’s most giant film franchises.
The rumours began with a report in The UK’s Daily Star, which is probably experiencing one of its heaviest traffic days on record. The piece quoted an unnamed “senior executive”, who said:
“We would love to have Beyoncé on board, almost certainly as a newcomer to the screen from Marvel’s existing catalogue of comic book characters.”
Reportedly, Beyoncé is being considered for characters including Boom Boom, who can create plasma bombs with her mind, Blink, who can teleport, and Tigra, “a cat-like crime-fighter with superhuman strength, speed and agility.”
Marvel’s Young Avengers features a female Hawkeye, and she is reportedly also being considered for this part as well.
In other Marvel rumours, it was reported overnight that the studio is close to tapping Selma‘s Ava DuVernay to direct its upcoming Black Panther movie.
