Rock Dogs Chris Cheney & Phil Jamieson Cast In The ‘American Idiot’ Musical

There’s a sentence-and-a-half for you.
Melbourne might be all a-flutter over the imminent arrival of ‘The Book of Mormon,’ but it’s not the only heavyweight musical set to hit our shores this summer.
Brisbane is copping it sweet from a debut Australian run of Green Day‘s sung-through musical ‘American Idiot,’ with the stage adaptation of the album of the same name hitting the QPAC from February 23rd.
Though we’re but a mere 6 weeks out from the premiere, the production has remained tight-lipped on casting for the show right up until today, with the announcement of a corking cast that’ll surely pique the interest of anyone who ever taped a full episode of Rage to VHS.
Both Chris Cheney of The Living End and Phil Jameson of Grinspoon will join the cast under the role of St. Jimmy when the musical takes the stage.
Cheney will play the role from February 23rd until the 26th, before Jameson takes over the gig from Feb 28th onwards.

The show’s artistic director, Nick Skubij, confirmed the casting moves in a statement issued this afternoon:

“We had over 600 people from across the nation audition for parts and believe we have on board a collection of the most authentic and talented performers. Who better to portray this electric story than actual rock stars themselves?”

“We are stoked to have two iconic Australian band front men, Chris Cheney and Phil Jamieson, along with a hugely talented group of young musical theatre stars and an acclaimed creative team.”

Info for the show, which has won two Tony Awards as well as a Grammy, can be found over at the musical’s website.

Chookas, lads!
