Robin Thicke And Pharrell Lose Multi-Million Dollar ‘Blurred Lines’ Lawsuit

Looks like Paula bailed at just the right time – a jury in Los Angeles has found that Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams did, indeed, rip off Marvin Gaye in their hit ‘Blurred Lines’, and has ordered them to pay US $7.3 million in damages.
Per reports in Rolling Stone, the finding puts an end to years of wrangling between the ‘Blurred Lines’ pair and Gaye’s estate, who originally sought US $25 million in damages over similarities to the late singer’s 1977 hit ‘Got To Give It Up.’
The whole lawsuit has been a gigantic hilarious clusterfuck from beginning to end, and if you care to, you can read through a lengthy list of Thicke’s sorta-denials and Vicodin flashbacks here
Thicke is probably blowing forlornly on a model’s foot somewhere in L.A as he considers the implications of all this. He, Williams and T.I. have released a joint statement, saying:
“While we respect the judicial process, we are extremely disappointed in the ruling made today, which sets a horrible precedent for music and creativity going forward. Pharrell created ‘Blurred Lines’ from his heart, mind and soul and the song was not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter.”

The judgement is a record high in a copyright infringement case. Previously, the highest amount awarded was against lustrous hair-haver Michael Bolton, who was pinged US $5.4 million for ripping off The Isley Brothers.
In case you need to relive ‘Blurred Lines’ again, here it is:
And here’s Gaye’s song, which, yeaaaaaaah, is pretty similar, hey:
