Rihanna Clears Up The So-Called “Shade” She Threw At Beyoncé’s Lemonade

For those blissfully unaware of the intense world of online stans, members of the Navy and the BeyhiveRihanna and Beyoncé‘s respective tribes – have been practically on the verge of World War III, ever since RiRi herself smashed the MF like button on a shady post about Beyoncé.

It started where all good music dramas do: the Grammys. A Rihanna stan account, @rihannagang_, posted a rant after the Academy failed to nominate its queen for Album of the Year or Song of the Year.

“I think they didn’t want her tied or passing someone else *cough cough* ,” it wrote, which anyone with an internet connection will recognise as shade thrown at Bey’s seminal 2016 album ‘Lemonade‘.

This is nothing unusual; fans are vocal as hell when their chosen one misses out.

But then Bad Girl RiRi herself went and liked the damn post. To the outside observer, this might seem like nothing, but in stan terms, it’s like someone asked if she’d be cool with launching the nuclear weapons and she just smiled and waved.
Stan turned on stan, Instagram on Instagram, and with a splutter and a hint o’ fresh lemon, the great Navy v Beyhive war of 2016 began. Spend even two seconds on @rihannagang_’s account and you’ll find shade, abuse, and approx. 100,000 bee emojis.
Sensing things were getting a *touch* outta control, RiRi returned to the scene of the crime and clarified that she had no idea what she was liking in the first place.

As captured by The Shade Room, she left this comment on the OG post:

“I never actually read your caption, I thought the pic was funny and moved right along! Til I see it pop up over and over. I’m petty af, yes. But this is just unnecessary! I wish y’all would drop this topic and see things from the bigger picture! We don’t need to be putting black women against each other! We deserve to be celebrated, and the Grammy Academy agrees!”

There you have it, folks. The general is out, but the war may yet rage.
