Ridiculousness of Spicks And Specks Apparent Only To Non-Australians

Last week the incomparable Jens Lekman, Australia’s favourite Melbourne residing Swede bar none, graced the set of madcap music quiz show Spicks and Specks. As is custom, Lekman dressed as Kraftwerk’s Florian Schneider then sang Harpo’s “Moviestar”, Haddaway’s “What Is Love” and the Zorba the Greek theme song by substituting the original lyrics with Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. We thought nothing of it at the time but in the wake of wtf? posts from Stereogum, Paste and our good friends at 24 Bit we have to reluctantly admit that in terms of programming, Australia might be the new Japan.
