Pussy Riot Member Detained For Sewing In Public At Russian Protest

Member of Pussy Riot and Russian activist Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, along with another protester, Katrin Nenasheva, has been detained by police in Moscow overnight, according to reports.

Tolokonnikova and Nenasheva reportedly staged a peaceful protest in Moscow on Friday, aiming to shed light on the difficulties female ex-inmates face in Russia, while adapting back into society, and transitioning into normal life.
Katrin Nenasheva had spent a reported 18 days on the streets of Moscow, wearing a prison uniform, as part of the protest. On Thursday, Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, who was imprisoned in 2012 for “premeditated hooliganism” during a performance in a Cathedral, joined Nenasheva’s protest. Tolokonnikova spent over a year in a Russian prison for her 2012 crime, during which time she staged a hunger strike, and was transferred to a different location – with her whereabouts remaining undisclosed for several weeks.
On Friday, the pair began sewing a Russian flag in Bolotnaya square as part of the protest – an act which led police to detain the duo, claiming “it was illegal to sew in a public space, that [they] should do it at home.”

Nenasheva and Tolokonnikova were detained by police; they weren’t, however, charged with any crime.
Cheers.
