Prince’s Legendary Vault Of Unreleased Tunes Reportedly Cracked Open

There’s a lot to celebrate in the life and legacy of one Prince Rogers Nelson, and most of the planet has (rightly) celebrated his musical genius and transgressive persona in the days after his death.

Still, behind those iconic characteristics, he had another defining trait: an obsessive work ethic that reportedly resulted in a literal vault full of unreleased tunes on top of his 39 studio albums.

Now, at his Minnesota estate, that treasure trove has reportedly been opened.
According to local station KSTP-TV, the company given temporary license over Prince’s estate – the man apparently didn’t leave a will – has actually drilled into that mind-boggling stash.
To put the volume of unreleased work into perspective, take this: one of his former recording engineers claimed he had enough tunes to put out a new album, every year, for a bloody century.

Among that haul are a reported fifty completed music videos that, for one reason or another, weren’t deemed fit for our mere mortal eyes.

Hell, there’s likely a nearly-complete documentary in there, too: Kevin Smith of Clerks fame once gave a rollicking talk on the ill-fated project, adding credence to the whole piles-and-piles of legit material theory.

Seeing as the bloke left no formal instructions on what should happen to all that goodness upon his death, his estate will be divvied up evenly between his half-siblings. That means, if they feel so inclined, we might be getting more new Prince tracks for a looong time coming.
