Prince‘s family have definitively shut down rumours that this year’s Superbowl half-time performance will feature a hologram of the late musician.
The rumours that Prince would be back in hologram form have been circulating since TMZ reported that Justin Timberlake, who’ll be headlining the half-time show, was keen on the idea. While he hasn’t yet commented on whether or not he’ll be trying to resurrect one of the greatest musicians of all time, he did tell the press on Thursday that Prince was a big influence on his upcoming performance.
But Prince’s remaining family and friends are extremely not into the notion that he could be appearing on stage with Timberlake.
Prince’s brother, Omarr Baker, manages the @PRNFamily Twitter account, and posted the following earlier today:

When fans asked him to elaborate he confirmed that he had not authorised the use of Prince’s image in a hologram, nor was it going to go ahead.

Sheila E., a long-term collaborator, friend and one-fiancée of Prince, also expressed her dismay at the hologram plan this morning, calling it “not cool“.
Prince told me don’t ever let anyone do a hologram of me. Not cool if this happens! https://t.co/khtCjXr2mY

I can think of exactly no good reason to have a Prince hologram appear anywhere. It’s against his wishes, his family hates the idea, and holograms are fucking creepy and should stay in Blade Runner 2049 where they belong.
LEAVE PRINCE ALONE. And tell JT to watch himself. If he starts trying to cover ‘Purple Rain‘, I am NOT going to be please.
