Perfect Angel Lorde Blessed Brisbane With A Little Powderfinger Cover

Pop genius Lorde doesn’t need to pander to Aussie audiences. Really, there’s not much else the 21-year-old Kiwi could do to make us bigger fans: two critically adored albums and packed crowds for her ongoing national tour attest to the fact we absolutely cannot get enough.

Still, last night’s gig in Brisbane may have just stolen the city’s heart for good.

Yep, Ella Yelich-O’Connor busted out a Powderfinger cover.

Atop a lilting piano melody, Lorde told a loving Riverstage crowd that she’d read those hometown heroes had played the same venue five times.

“I was raised on Powderfinger. That was my shit,” she said, before delivering a perfectly gentle take on My Happiness.

Lorde’s tour is rolling on, and her tomorrow’s stop is at Spilt Milk festival in Canberra. It’s just as well she’s heading to the capital, because we might just have to make her an honorary Australian.
