Call the folks, get the good placemats out and call Aunt Susie, because Dad’s going back out on his annual Christmas tour again this year. Yep, that’s right, the country’s collective dad Paul Kelly has announced his very good, firmly festive Making Gravy tour for December.
Now in its third year, Paul Kelly will be tearing around the country before the last bells are rung at the close of December 21, with a bunch of his favourite tin lids with him. For the first time this year Dad’s Big Gravy Train™ will hoon across to Perth, finally making the Chrissy ‘do a full-country affair.
As always, Paul Kelly and the gang will be hitting open-air venues in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, so you can sit under the setting sun and sing along to all of Dad’s classics.
Making the gravy around Aus with Papa Paul this year are Courtney Barnett and Kate Miller-Heidke, and our cooler cousin from New Zealand, Marlon Williams. And in Sydney, the sweetness and tang gets amped up with Thelma Plum dropping in for a one-off appearance, potentially just to have a bit of Christmas pavlova (the best part of dinner imo).
Meanwhile I’ll be sitting over here on the kids table waiting for the day Dad asks Luca Brasi to tour with him. Yeah, cheers as.
Not only had he dropped the tour, which is fast becoming a country-wide family Xmas tradition, but Paul Kelly’s just announced he’ll be unleashing a greatest hits record – Songs From The South vol 1 & 2 – in November as well. So if you really want to build up a bunch of brownie points this year, then grab a copy of that for the parents’ stockings this year. You’ll be elevated to Favourite Child status in no time.
Check out the full dates and venues below – kids can go to the 18+ shows but need to be accompanied by a Big Kid – and tickets for a ride of the annual Gravy Boat go on sale from 12pm local time on Friday August 23. (But you can weasel your way into presale tickets over on Paul Kelly’s website.)
