PANIC STATIONS: Childish Gambino Says His Next Record Will Be His Last

Childish Gambino stans, take a seat: Donald Glover himself has hinted that his next album will be his last.
At the end of his Governors Ball appearance, the rapper turned psych-funk maestro told the crowd “I’ll see you for the last Gambino album.” Cue legitimate disbelief among the crowd.

It’s easy to see why Glover may choose to rest the whole music thing. His profile as an actor has skyrocketed in the past couple of years, and it’d make sense if he chose to focus on Atlanta and upcoming roles in The Lion King reboot and the Han Solo prequel.
That definitely doesn’t mean that’s it’ll be the last music we hear from Glover, though.

It’s been speculated that last year’s “Awaken, My Love!”, which signalled a dramatic shift from his earlier work, fulfilled the final component of his deal with label Glassnote. It wouldn’t be a shock if Glover continued to produce more experimental tunes in that vein under a different name.

Hell, look no further than Nick Murphy for an example of artists choosing to ditch their decidedly goofy stage names once they settle on a new musical direction.
Knowing this dude though, we’ll probably be waiting a while for clarification. At least he’s worked up a decent back-catalogue if he does decide to call it quits.
