Outrageous Lengths Folks Have Gone Through To Save Cash At Festivals

Festivals are notorious for burning a huge hole in the ol’ wallet. When you piece together the cost of the ticket, travel expenses, inflated on-site accommodation, food, a #Gramworthy outfit, booze and all that jazz, you’re looking at a sum that would send most folks into cardiac arrest.

Us humans are, however, an extremely nifty/frugal bunch – but none more so than New York’s Electric Zoo festival punter, Alex.

Yes, odds are that you remember his incredible feat whereby he visited the event’s site a whole three weeks prior to its commencement, mapped out a specific spot’s coordinates on a GPS, before burying a bottle of vodka there. He managed to track down his precious grog’s location with pinpoint precision on the day of the event, retrieve it, post his story, and subsequently live to become an internet legend of viral proportions.

Even the most cynical of us were touched by this truly inspirational endeavour because, at the end of the day, we’ve all been Alex. Sure, most of us have never acted on our ideas, but we’ve all been consumed with the thought of how we can get around the system, defy the powers that be, and enjoy being a festival goer without the unavoidably disgusting price tag. But common sense kicked in to foil your dastardly, albeit brilliant, ways of saving funds at a festival didn’t it? We’re hoping that same common sense will kick in while you review the below genius/outrageously OTT approaches others have taken to smuggling things into festivals  – but if it doesn’t, then, like, you do you.

1. A hollowed-out loaf of bread + vodka = foolproof way to get grog inside a festival.

2. Other carb-heavy options for the above approach include making a vodka burrito.

3. Not a burrito fan? Maybe Pringles are more up your alley.

4. If you CBF going down the food route, then people have done some impressive things with their hair.

5. Even looks that aren’t what you’d typically deem ‘subtle’ work too.

6. Oh, and hair-styling tools are on the smuggling table as well.

While all of the above deserve a huge round of applause for their clever thinkin’, you really don’t need to seek out such extreme measures to save a few dollars at the next festival you’re heading to. A great way to do just that is by avoiding paying through the nose for accommodation and opting for an equally decent alternate.

YHA have a few x 5-night accommodation packs (each for two people) to give away which you can use at one of their locations close to whatever festival you’re heading to. That’ll surely help keep some of your hard-earned cash in your coffers, yeah? Get around it HERE.

And hey, regardless of whether you enter/win or not, they’re a great avenue to take if you’re keen on keeping those festival expenses to a minimum without sacrificing yo’ comfort. Learn more about their discounted accom packs (ePacks) HERE.
