HERE IT IS: Ocean Alley Scores Top Spot On The Triple J Hottest 100

Sydney six-piece Ocean Alley have scored the #1 spot on the Triple J Hottest 100, capping off a remarkable year for the lads from the Northern Beaches of the NSW capital.

The group swooped on the most coveted gong in Australian music via their gargantuan tune Confidence, which beat out several highly-fancied international rivals to claim the gong for the 2018 calendar year.

Chief among those tunes that Ocean Alley topped was Childish Gambino‘s world-melting tune This Is America, which despite a lot of conventional wisdom, slipped to number 4 overall on the list.

Besting that by one spot was Travis Scott and his breakthrough global smash hit SICKO MODE, which earned old mate a spot on the podium in third place.

Aussie producer FISHER scored the second overall spot on the list, falling just short of scoring the illustrious gong, for his dancefloor-destroying earworm Losing It. A 2nd place finish for old mate here represents something of a minor boilover as far as this year’s Hottest 100 is concerned; while most pundits had the tune safely in the top 10, it wasn’t expected to outdo both Travis Scott and Childish Gambino, making it an absolutely mammoth result.

Ocean Alley’s win no mean feat by any stretch of the imagination. With over 2.7 million votes cast, the count was the largest one ever conducted by Triple J. And their ascension up the Hottest 100 ranks follows on the heels of last year’s count in which they featured just once, in 48th spot overall.

This year, however, was all Ocean Alley. Not only did they take out #1, they had the most songs featured in the list with 4.
