Oasis’ Manager Still Happy Sony Warehouse Burned During London Riots

Alan McGee, former Creation Records boss and groomer of such acts as Oasis, Libertines and Primal Scream landed himself in hot water at Brisbane’s BIGSOUND Conference this week, when he declared he found the Sony PIAS warehouse fire ‘funny’.

Now the controversial music mogul, who attracted the ire of many BIGSOUND participants including equally offensive Australian promoter, Michael Chugg, has stood by his comments after they made world news in an exclusive interview with Australian site, Musicfeeds.

I hate Sony, if the Sony building burnt to the ground again as it did, I’d say that was a result, I think it’s funny. Loads of shit music getting burned, I think it’s great, and I’m sorry if that’s not popular and if that’s not PC [politically correct], but fuck PC, that’s what’s ruined England, not being able to say what you think; sorry, but I do, and if you don’t like it go fuck yourself.

McGee has a longstanding enmity with the major label, whom he had to sell half of his Creation Records to in the early ’90s after nearly going bust. The PIAS warehouse held stock for labels such as Matador, XL and 4AD, home to artists like Bon Iver, St Vincent, Interpol and more, most of which McGee views as “a lot of shit new music.” He also believes he was taken out of context, so do the very nice man a favour and listen to the whole minute of vitriol over at Musicfeeds and see if you despise him any less.
