This is honestly the most Oasis thing I can imagine, seeing as the band are famous for two things: using the same four chords to write all of their songs, and being wildly out of touch with the world.
Danny Boyle‘s cult favourite ‘Trainspotting‘ was a harrowing and at times very funny film about a group heroin addicts in 1990s Edinburgh that featured a very iconic scene with a toilet and an even more iconic soundtrack of meticulously curated Britpop and punk.
At the time (and even now, come to think of it), Oasis were the most iconic Britpop band in the world, and their absence from both soundtrack records was pretty conspicuous – it turns out they weren’t on there for a very specific reason: they thought the movie was about actual trainspotting. Like the hobby, for extreme nerds.
‘Trainspotting‘ producer Andrew Macdonald set up the spike at a press conference by saying he didn’t know why Noel passed up:
“Danny Boyle is from near Manchester and he was very keen to have Noel Gallagher do something but there was a reason why he didn’t do it. He came to the launch party in Cannes, but I don’t know why he didn’t do a piece of music.”
And costume designer Rachel Fleming knocked it over the net:
“I met Noel at a thing the other week and he said to me: ‘I would have done something, but honestly I thought it was about trainspotters. I didn’t know.’ That’s what he actually said.”
Well lessons learned I guess, maybe if they’re lucky Boyle will let them on the upcoming sequel.
