NME’s 50 Best New Bands 0f 2010

Uh oh, perennial list-makers NME have just unveiled their “50 Best New Bands 0f 2010“. A little premature considering the speed with which a laptop wielding stoner can go from unknown bedroom producer to incendiary saviour of all music these days (one blog week tops). But still, it’s a useful reminder of all the new tune-age that might have escaped your grasp this year.

Despite the crazy output of the “best new bands” factory that is Australia, Queensland’s The Middle East were the only Aussies to make the list, nabbing 17th spot and glowing praise from Marcus Mumford who described them as “the most inspiring new band around.

Number one spot went to Best Coast the LA three-piece fronted by terminally chill weed advocate, Seinfeld fan and Jay-Z enthusiast Bethany Cosentino. All characteristics that would rate very highly on my own personal “Best New Humans of 2010” list.

Top ten in descending order…

10. Grouplove
9. Yuck
8 .Magnetic Man
7. Darwin Deez
6. Marina & The Diamonds
5. The Smith Westerns
4. Sleigh Bells
3. Wu Lyf
2. The Drums
1. Best Coast
