Nicki Minaj, she of roughly one billion chart hits and just as many mind-bending feature verses, has announced her retirement from the rap scene.
The MC took to Twitter this morning to make the announcement, saying she’s stepping back to start a family with her partner Kenneth Petty.
I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, ❌ in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. ✅ Love you for LIFE ????♥️????
— Mrs. Petty (@NICKIMINAJ) September 5, 2019
Her statement comes just weeks after she teased at a legal union to Petty, and referenced her follow-up to 2018’s record Queen.
The Super Bass gun used a Queen Radio podcast last month to hint in that direction, telling fans “I’ll be married before my album comes out, but will have my wedding after the album comes out. Before the 90 days is over, yes, I will be married.”
It’s huge news for the scene, considering Minaj was filling arenas as late as March this year, but only time will tell if she returns to culture she helped revolutionise over the past decade.
Now seems as good a time as any to listen to Monster on repeat, as we await for further news on that upcoming (?) record.
