Nicki Minaj just changed her (Twitter) name to Mrs. Petty and the internet is absolutely losing its shit. Did she get married? Is it all a publicity stunt?? I need answers!
The “Super Bass” rapper debut her new name to 20 million Twitter followers with no explanation, leaving fans to speculate whether she really has tied the knot.
The name change comes after Minaj announced on her Queen Radio podcast earlier this week that she had filed for a marriage license to problematic partner, Kenneth Petty.

She revealed that she planned to legally tie the knot before she has a big wedding, due to technicalities that require you to get married within 90 days of filing for a license, according to TMZ.
“I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now. We’ll do the big wedding later,” she said in the podcast. “I’ll be married before my album comes out, but will have my wedding after the album comes out. Before the 90 days is over, yes, I will be married.”
So… does this mean they’ve officially eloped?
The 36-year-old has been dating Petty since last year, which has caused quite a stir online considering he is a convicted sex offender. However, Nicki has addressed her probably husband’s criminal past on Instagram, and doesn’t seem to be bothered by it.
“He was 15, she was 16 … in a relationship. But go awf Internet. Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo,” she said.
A year seems pretty soon to get engaged but Petty also debuted a tattoo of Nicki’s name “Onika” within weeks of them going public with the relationship. Because, you know… celebrity stuff.
This is actually the second time the pair have filed for a marriage license, but their busy schedules meant that they didn’t have time to pick up the license before it hit the 90 day expiry. I mean, it’s not like a marriage license is a big deal or anything.
Obviously Twitter went absolutely buck wild over the news. However, Nicki literally hasn’t said a word, leaving us all here to wonder whether she’s officially tied the knot or if she’s just playing with us.
But if she’s officially Mrs. Petty now, does that mean the new album will be dropping sooner than we think?
